IRAN'S PARLIAMENT GIVES BRITAIN AN ULTIMATUM

The Iranian parliament has voted to break diplomatic relations with Britain if it does not change its stand on the Salman Rushdie affair within a week. Tehran wants Britain to reconsider its response to Iranian death threats against Mr. Rushdie for what was termed blasphemy in his book ``The Satanic Verses.''

The parliamentary bill must be approved by the 12-man council of theologians and lawyers who have veto power to ensure conformity with Islam and the Iranian Constitution, the Iranian news agency IRNA said.
