INVESTIGATORS OF IOWA CRASH TO RECALL PARTS FROM SIX DC-10S

Investigators probing the crash of a DC-10 in Iowa have recalled metal disks from the tail engines of six other DC-10s to check for possible flaws, a government spokesman said. The recall was recommended after National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigators found the 3-foot-diameter disks, which hold the fan blades of the General Electric Company engines, may have been cut from the same slab of metal used in the jet that crashed, said a NTSB spokesman Sunday.
