1936 Title role in George Bernard Shaw's ``St. Joan'' and Eliza Doolittle in ``Pygmalion,'' both at Malvern Festival to celebrate Shaw's 80th birthday.

1938 Eliza in film version of ``Pygmalion'' with Leslie Howard.

1941 Major Barbara in film version of Shaw play of same name.

1946-47 Tess in Ronald Gow's adaptation for stage of Hardy's novel ``Tess of the D'Ubervilles.''

1951-53 Evelyn Daly in N.C. Hunter's play ``Waters of the Moon,'' London.

1955-56 Various roles for Old Vic Company, London, notably Emilia in ``Othello.''

1957 Josie Hogan in ``A Moon for the Misbegotten,'' New York.

1962 Miss Tina in ``The Aspern Papers,'' New York.

1967 Nurse Wayland in Somerset Maugham's ``The Sacred Flame.''

1972 Queen Mary in ``Crown Matrimonial,'' London.

1976 Gunhild Borkman in Ibsen's ``John Gabriel Borkman'' for National Theatre, London.

1988 Miss Daisy Werthan in ``Driving Miss Daisy,'' London.

Other film work includes an Oscar-winning role in ``Separate Tables,'' ``Sons and Lovers,'' and ``A Man For All Seasons.'' TV appearances include ``The Kingfisher,'' ``Richard II,'' and, just finished, ``Ending Up.''
