PANAMANIAN OPPOSITION LEADER UNDER ARREST

Opposition leader Ricardo Arias Calder'on, an outspoken critic of Panamanian military leader Manuel Antonio Noriega, was arrested Sunday and was being held at an Army barracks in central Veraguas province, his wife said. Teresita de Arias said her husband, the head of Panama's Christian Democratic Party and a vice presidential candidate in annulled elections here five months ago, was detained together with eight supporters in Santiago, the provincial capital of Veraguas, 157 miles west of Panama City.
