AQUINO SHUNS US DEFENSE CHIEF

Philippines President Corazon Aquino, in an apparent snub to the United States, said yesterday she would not meet Defense Secretary Dick Cheney when he visits Manila next week. In a weekly radio address, Mrs. Aquino also said her government would demand explanations from Washington on why aid to the Philippines was being cut.

She said visits here last month by two US officials turned out to be ``a sad experience'' for her, an apparent reference to negative US press coverage that followed the trips.
