LITHUANIA ACCEPTS HAVEL'S OFFER TO MEDIATE WITH MOSCOW
| PRAGUE
Lithuanian President Vytautas Landsbergis has accepted an offer from Czechoslovakia to play host to talks with Moscow on the Baltic republic's independence, the state news agency CTK said Monday. Mr. Landsbergis sent a telegram Saturday saying: ``It is with joy and thanks that he accepts President [Vaclav] Havel's suggestion for talks to take place in Czechoslovakia between the USSR and Lithuania,'' the agency said.
Havel made his mediation offer in messages to Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and Landsbergis last Thursday. CTK did not say whether Mr. Gorbachev had replied.
