JAPAN WANTS FINAL DECISION ON IMF RANKING

Japan wants finally to win the International Monetary Fund ranking to match its economic power at talks next week in Washington, government officials say. Japan, now the fifth-largest shareholder in the IMF, has long wanted to take second place after the United States. There has been continuous disagreement as to what happens to such other powers as Britain, now second; West Germany, third; and France, fourth.
