Spain told its European allies yesterday it was sending warships to the Persian Gulf, Spanish officials said. A spokesman for Spanish Foreign Minister Francisco Fernandez Ordonez said Madrid was sending one frigate, two corvettes, and a support vessel.
The decision was announced during an emergency meeting in Paris of the nine-nation Western European Union.
