STATE TAX COLLECTIONS UP

State tax revenues jumped nearly $20 billion in the 1989 fiscal year to a total of $284 billion, a 7.5 increase from 1988, the Tax Foundation reports. In 1989, revenues from 10 out of 13 major tax categories increased over the previous year, led by levies on personal income (10.7 percent), corporate income (10.4 percent), and property (7.9 percent).
