PELLET STOVES GAIN ACCEPTANCE AMONG HOMEOWNERS

Sales of pellet stoves in 1990 increased 112 percent from 1989, according to spokesmen for Vermont Castings Inc., a stove manufacturer based in Randolph, Vt. Pellet stove sales represented a 16 percent market share among woodstove and fireplace products in 1990, up from 9 percent in 1989.Pellet stoves burn small pellets made from compacted wood, paper, or agricultural products instead of burning chunk wood. The stoves are becoming a viable option for homeowners who are concerned about the environment, the company says.
