AIDS and society

In the article "Uganda's First Lady: AIDS a Moral Problem," Nov. 13, the First Lady of Uganda gives a thought-provoking perspective on what she believes to be the reason for the worldwide spread of this disease. Unlike most reports on AIDS, she doesn't simply focus on the physical problem; instead she sees the "physical manifestation" of the disease as being rooted in society's lack of moral integrity and spiritual values. Her description of today's society as "spiritually illiterate" needs to be pondered until its meaning is generally understood. Joan Whiteside, Toronto Letters are welcome.
