R&D FORECAST AT $156 BILLION IN US THIS YEAR

Research and development spending in the United States is expected to reach $156 billion this year, representing an inflation-adjusted increase of 1 percent, according to Battelle, a research group in Columbus, Ohio. Industry is forecast to account for 52 percent of the total, government 43 percent, academic institutions 3 percent, and nonprofit organizations 2 percent.
