EMPLOYEE THEFT HURTS RETAILERS
| NEW YORK
Dishonest employees and shoplifters are responsible for nearly seven out of every 10 dollars lost in retail inventory shrinkage, according to a national retail security survey sponsored by Sensormatic Electronics Corporation.
Shrinkage levels among retailers are lower when store workers are paid more than the competition. Shrinkage for retailers paying workers 5 percent or less below the competition is 2.07 percent, while the shrinkage of retailers paying 15 percent or more above the competition is 1.31 percent.
