UN SENDS MORE FOOD TO DROUGHT-HIT KENYA

The United Nations said Tuesday it was giving another 31,000 tons of food to victims of severe drought in Kenya.

The UN's World Food Programme said nearly 1 million people in northern and eastern Kenya were threatened with hunger. Some experts say the situation is worse than the 1984-85 famine that killed more than 1 million people in the Horn of Africa.

The WFP has already given Kenya about 25,000 tons of food and Western donors have made similar donations.
