FRANCHISE SALES ARE ON THE RISE

* A study by Arthur Andersen estimates that the number of franchise establishments and their sales will grow in 1992.

Franchise chains such as McDonald's, KFC, and Holiday Inn, created more than 18,500 businesses in 1991 and this number is expected to exceed 21,000 this year.

Franchise sales are expected to increase 14.7 percent in 1992, compared to an estimated growth rate for the economy of slightly over 1 percent.
