SELLING THE FAMILY BUSINESS IS NOT EASY

* Of the 84 family business owners surveyed by the accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand, half of the respondents do not expect to keep the business in the family.

Fifty-eight percent say they plan to cash out because of the lack of interest or participation of family members. But 67 percent of those who planned to sell said the slow economy had affected their ability to find a buyer.
