WORTH NOTING ON TV

* THURSDAY

National Press Club (C-Span, 7-8 a.m., E.T.): The guest is Postmaster General Marvin Runyon.

G-7 Summit (CNN, throughout the day and following - check local listings): Network TV is offering news about the 19th Summit of Industrialized Nations from Tokyo, but if you want to see extensive live coverage, CNN is the place to be. During four meetings, several issues are being discussed, such as the Bosnian conflict and aid to Russia. On Thursday, the Economic Declaration is covered, and President Clinton has a press conference scheduled on Friday. (A big time difference exists between Tokyo and the United States, so some of the events happen at odd hours in the United States.)

CNN International (CNN's sister network) is also offering live coverage, including press conferences by Russian President Boris Yeltsin and Japanese Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa, and one by Clinton and Yeltsin - all on Friday. * FRIDAY

Evening at Pops (PBS, 9-10 p.m.): The summertime series' 24th season opens with a farewell, as the Boston Pops Orchestra offers a long, star-filled salute to its departing conductor, John Williams. This marks the Oscar-winning film composer's 13th year on the Pops podium at Boston's Symphony Hall - where he'll remain through most of this season's shows - and host Richard Dreyfuss introduces an appealing lineup of guests to honor him. One of them is opera's Jessye Norman, a favorite at the Pops, who sings

Kern's "All the Things You Are" with Williams at the piano - a number from their duet recording "Lucky to Be Me." Aretha Franklin is also on hand to deliver some of the soul numbers she's famous for - yes, including "Respect." But the evening is also a multimedia event. Snatches from the hugely popular films Williams wrote music for are flashed on a background screen. And taped tributes are shown from such artists as violinist Itzak Perlman, who improbably plays Williams's familiar theme from "Raiders of t he Lost Ark."
