* These were some of the most noteworthy results in selected events for all age groups at the Massachusetts Senior Games, held June 17-19 in Springfield, Mass.:
Hammer throw: Men: Charles Thompson, 51, 150 ft., 3 in. Women: Libby Hagemann, 73, 66 ft., 5 in.
Javelin: Men: Robert Youngs, 60, 151 ft., 10 in. Women: Mary Dowling, 53, 91 ft., 2 in.
Discus: Men: Leonard Rosen, 60, 122 ft., 9 in. Women: Amy Hicks, 61, 77 ft., 7 in.
Shot put: Men: Charles Thompson, 51, 42 ft., 9-3/4 in. Women: Mary Roman, 58, 27 ft., 8-1/2 in.
Pole vault: Men: Peter Perkins, 58, 8 ft., 5 in. Women: Joyce Finley, 63, 3 ft., 7 in.
High jump: Men: Peter Gartner, 55, 4 ft., 6 in. Women: Amy Hicks, 61, 3 ft., 4 in.
Long jump: Men: Richard Hausamann, 57, 15 ft., 4 in. Women: Bridgette Langer, 64, 10 ft., 2 in. Libby Hagemann, 73, 8 ft. (gold medal, 70-74 age group; 3rd overall).
100 meters: Men (tie): Richard Damery, 54, 13.7 sec.; Nicholas DeNitto, 54, 13.7 sec. Women: Ruth Griesel, 53, 21.4 sec.
400 meters: Men: Roland Cormier, 54, 64.5 sec. Women: Lorelei Ruben, 61, 2:03 min.
800 meters: Men: Ray Lussier, 65, 2:41 sec.
10 km run: Men: Roland Cormier, 54, 42:09 min. Women: Doris Aronson, 61, 59:44 min.
Participants also competed in these events to qualify for the national championship: badminton, three-on-three basketball, ten-pin bowling, 5 km cycling, 10 km cycling, golf, horseshoes, 1,500-meter race walk, 1,500-meter run, 5 km race walk, 5 km run, racquetball, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball.
The triathlon (400-meter swim, 20 km cycling, 5 km road race) was postponed until the fall, because of the heat.
Nonchampionship events include: billiards, candlepin bowling, lawn bowling, table tennis (doubles and mixed doubles), and the hammer throw.
