FOLK. Shawn Colvin - Cover Girl (Columbia Records): In her second. album this year, cherub-voiced Shawn Colvin takes time to cover some old favorites from her days on the road. The names she chooses are sometimes surprising, ranging from the standards of Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, and Jimmy Webb to the more eclectic pop and rock ditties of David Byrne and Sting; Colvin gives them the pared-down treatment of a coffeehouse chanteuse. Fans may feel that the talented songwriter is slacking off and needs to book some time with the muses, but they won't be disappointed to get a sprinkling of tracks from Colvin playing live at the Bottom Line club in New York.
