THE PAPER (R, MCA/Universal Home Video). This comedy-drama directed by Ron Howard focuses on a day in the life of a New York City newspaper. Michael Keaton is engaging as the harried metro editor trying to make sure his tabloid gets the story du jour right: Did two boys arrested for a heinous hate crime really do it? Both helping and hindering his efforts are his zany staff, his pregnant wife (Marisa Tomei), and the paper's frugal managing editor (Glenn Close). Robert Duvall gives a memorable performance as the editor who keeps them all in line. A suspenseful climax neatly ties up all the loose ends in this entertaining but occasionally gritty film. Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.
