THE MASK - (PG-13, New Line Home Video). Before his ``Dumb & Dumber'' days, Jim Carrey starred in this occasionally entertaining film based on characters from Dark Horse Comics. He easily handles his role as a banker who, when he dons an ancient mask, takes on an impish attitude and cartoonlike powers. Too bad his new green face and banana-colored zoot suit are about the only lively elements in the plodding story. The supporting cast members rarely go beyond their two-dimensional inspirations, but the animated special effects and the antics of Carrey's well-trained dog help detract from the movie's uneven acting and other flaws.
