This weekend, collectors and admirers of crafts will flock to the American Craft Council's prestigious annual show in West Springfield, Mass. It's not the place to find painted seashells or tie-dyed T-shirts; only museum-quality works, many of which are unconventional in materials or use, are shown. For example, Patricia Burling's 3-by-5 foot warp-face wool rug with rayon accents (l.) is durable enough to be walked on, but it could also be displayed as art on a wall or window.
