UN Says Monitor Writer Being Held by Bosnian Serbs

Monitor reporter David Rohde is being held by the Bosnian Serbs, a United Nations official in Zagreb, Croatia, told the Monitor, based on a report from a Bosnian Serb official.

The UN report could not be confirmed by other sources. Both the United States and the International Committee of the Red Cross are continuing efforts to locate Mr. Rohde.

Rohde, the Monitor's East European correspondent, has been missing since Sunday when he left for Bosnian Serb territory to report on massacres of Muslims by Bosnian Serbs.

Top US officials brought up Rohde's case with Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic yesterday during peace talks in Dayton, Ohio. The US is waiting for Mr. Milosevic to respond on whether he can locate Rohde or help obtain his release.
