IMAX Film Takes Audiences to Sunken Titanic

It has been 84 years since the Titanic sank, but an eerie wreck still lies on the ocean floor, complete with brass accouterments, mounds of plates, miles of telegraph wires, and the bathtub in the captain's bedroom. Special underwater lights aided in filming these scenes for the IMAX movie "Titanica," the result of a 1991 research expedition to the sunken ocean liner. Pictured here are the ship's bow, with the spare anchor still in place on deck, as well as the propeller in the overturned stern section - all 2-1/2 miles under water. The film includes footage of the expedition, archival photographs, and comments from Eva Hart, the only living survivor of the wreck. "Titanica," shown on giant screens, has played in special venues in the US, Canada, and Europe - including the American Museum of Natural History in New York, where it is being shown through June.
