SATURDAY 2/28

The Pentagon Wars (HBO, 8-10 p.m.): Kelsey Grammer and Carey Elwes star in this David-and-Goliath tale in which Goliath loses the battle - but wins promotion. Based on real events, the story exposes the monumental waste of taxpayers' money on a tank that was more dangerous to American soldiers than any enemy. Richard Benjamin directs this well-made, literate film with a keen ironic wit - Hollywood high tech without the price tag. Some crass language makes it adult fare. (TV-MA, L)

SUNDAY 3/1

Glory & Honor (TNT, 8-10 p.m.): At the top of the world, there is room for two heroes. This engaging docudrama examines the largely untold story of the "co-discoverers" of the North Pole - American Robert Peary (Henry Czerny) and his black valet Matthew Henson (Delroy Lindo). Henson, the expedition's unsung hero, is outgoing and makes valuable friendships, especially with the native Inuits. Peary, meanwhile, is obsessed with becoming the first man to reach the North Pole. The tension between the two adds to the drama. The telepic will repeat Tuesday and Saturday. (TV-14, LV)

The Long Way Home (CBS, 9-11 p.m.): Jack Lemmon stars as Tom Gerrin, a widower and retired carpenter from Kansas who's longing for some excitement. Enter Leanne Bossert (Sarah Paulson), a free-spirited young woman who's driving cross-country. When they literally bump into each other on the road, Tom decides to travel to California with Leanne. It's an adventurous trip, and one of self-discovery for them both. The movie is long and windy, but Lemmon's wit and sincerity make it bearable to watch. (TV-PG)

Braveheart (NBC, 9-11 p.m.): The 1995 winner of five Oscars including best picture and best director will air on network TV for the first time. Mel Gibson stars in and directs this historical epic about 13th-century warrior William Wallace. The movie concludes Monday night. (TV-14)

Ultra Sound - Inside Madonna (MTV, 10-10:30 p.m.): The new weekly music series features an exclusive interview with Madonna. The artist discusses motherhood and making her new album, "Ray of Light."

MONDAY 3/2

Egypt Uncovered (Discovery, 10-11 p.m.): Ancient history is constantly being revised, and this five-part series explores how newer archaeological discoveries have altered our perception of the past. The discovery of the ancient ruins of Nabta Playa, for example, predates Egyptian civilization by 2,000 years. This fascinating journey includes many sites off limits to the public. (TV-G)

WEDNESDAY 3/4

Rolling Stones: Bridges to Babylon 1998 (PBS, 8:30-10:30 p.m.): This front-seat experience of the Stones' concert in St. Louis last December has 18 cameras on the job. The show includes some of the band's greatest hits, such as "Satisfaction" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash."
