* For honing your talents in shooting sports, try Purdue University in West Layfayette, Ind.

* For cross-country skiers, the best bet is the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

* Montana State University in Billings is the place to catch great fly-fishing opportunities.

* For backpacking buffs, head to Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.

* Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, is the place to go for great bass fishing.

* For rock climbers, check out Prescott College in Prescott Ariz.

* And for the all-around outdoor enthusiast, the University of Oregon in Eugene is top-notch.
