A survey by procter & Gamble says the British may have the smelliest homes in Europe. More homes in Britain were found to have pets and smokers than in other European countries, and 98 percent have carpeted floors, which retain odors, compared with 16 percent in France and just 2 percent in Italy. Spanish homeowners top Europe in annual spring cleaning (87 percent), followed by Italians (71 percent) and the British trail at 46 percent. But Brits lead in air freshener use (54 percent) compared with 11 percent in Germany.
