How to help Kosovo's refugees
Some 400,000 ethnic-Albanians have been forced from their homes in the Yugoslav province of Kosovo to date. They continue to depart Kosovo for neighboring states, crowding border areas despite international airlifts out of the region. International agencies are working to cope with a mounting humanitarian crisis.
The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has set up a hot line to help individuals wishing to contribute to relief efforts: 800-USAID-RELIEF, or
800-872-4373; the agency's Web site (www.info.usaid.gov) offers more information and some links.
