Expanded rights for welfare recipients

The Supreme Court yesterday struck down a California law intended to prevent welfare recipients from cashing in on higher benefits in other states. New residents had been limited to the amount of welfare they received in their previous state. Fourteen other states have similar laws:

Florida

Georgia

Illinois

Maryland

Minnesota

New Hampshire

New Jersey

New York

North Dakota

Pennsylvania

Rhode Island

Vermont

Washington
