Home Trends

What are the most popular features in a home? According to the Homes From the Heart survey conducted earlier this year, formal rooms are losing ground. Rather than opting for both a living and dining room, 65 percent of homeowners prefer great rooms that link living, dining, and kitchen areas in a large open space. They also want plenty of storage, with 80 to 90 percent desiring walk-in closets and pantries and 75 percent wanting garage storage. A majority of families like having the utility room next to the kitchen or garage and want the master suite isolated from other bedrooms. Also in demand are front porches, decks, fireplaces or wood stoves, and skylights.

The most popular size of house is 2,000-3,000 square feet.

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.
