Cheaper by the gallon

You know the feeling. After wincing at the cost of filling up your gas-guzzling sport-utility vehicle, you drive away - only to find cheaper gas moments later. How can you avoid adding insult to injury?

Now, thanks to a consumer watchdog group's Web site, you can figure out exactly where to fill up in your area for the best price.

Updated daily, www.gaspricewatch.com is compiled by "volunteer spotters" and welcomes contributions in return for reward points that can be converted into prizes. The Web site's spotters have reported price differentials as high as 20 cents in the same town.

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.
