Time to weed the crab grass

Do you spend hours manicuring your lawn down to the tiniest blade of grass? Or is your lawn more worn than an old pair of jeans? In either case, you have a chance to cash in on your turf with Lowe's All-American Lawn contest.

The $5,000 grand prize won't simply be awarded to the lushest green grass. Judges are seeking an "all American" look, based on this criteria: lawn use, overall appearance, nutrition, creativity, and character. Entrants should submit a color photograph and a one-page description of how the lawn is used and the care program followed. Send to:

All-American Lawn Contest, PO Box 1835, Elgin, IL 60121.

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.
