Web Smarts

WHAT: Looking for something to do now that school is out? Have you ever wondered how to draw using two-point perspective, or wanted to design your own house? This site, A Lifetime of Color, is filled with both online and off-line art activities. Sections on teaching, studying, and creating art, and art games for a variety of ages, are fun, clear, and full of information.

BEST POINTS: For kids wanting structured, on-line activities, there are fun games on subjects including color relationships, the Renaissance, and the elements of architecture. If you're happier away from the computer, click on "Create Art" to find detailed, hands-on activities. Teachers can also locate lesson plans for K-8 students. The site is filled with easy-to-access definitions, biographies, and illustrations. If you really like what you make, send it in and they might publish it on the Web site!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Sanford is the creator of Prismacolor art products, and this brand is specifically suggested in several instances. Educational Web Adventures (www.eduweb.com) helped create the site.

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.
