Hats off to the convention

Beyond the speeches, the Republican National Convention has offered a chance for Americans to show up, and off, for causes that they care about. The Texas delegation has been living large this week in Philadelphia. Texas delegate Wayne Turner (above) sported a button the size of a satellite dish at the Aug. 2 session.

At left, Jacob Bragdon and Eli Steiker-Ginzberg (right) see eye to eye with Jason, a stilt walker and healthcare protester July 29.

Below, former Republican Sen. Alfonse D'Amato seems quite taken with the headgear of Fran Libous, a delegate from his home state of New York.

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.
