Execs run a different sort of rat race
Some companies encourage team-building by engaging in, say, an occasional off-site powwow. Others prefer to break into a sweat. One option for the latter crowd: the Presidio Challenge Corporate race in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Sponsored by Deloitte Consulting, the second annual Presidio challenge kicked off last Thursday and put corporate teams through a 30-hour endurance race featuring kayaking, mountain biking, trekking, and rappelling. The twist: course and objectives weren't revealed until the day of the race.
The entrants ranged from men and women in their early 20s to those in their mid-50s and represented firms including Dreyer's Ice Cream, Keen.com, and Charles Schwab.
Overall winner: the Schwab team. Its $10,000 prize will be donated to charity.
