A bumper crop of books
If the Internet is threatening good old-fashioned publishing, I'll be hogtied. The field of books seems more fertile than ever. About 65,000 titles sprouted up this year - enough to read from sunup to sundown. Admittedly, lots of these were briars and dandelions, but the creative soil produced a good yield, nonetheless. For this round-up (not to be confused with Monsanto's herbicide), we plowed through all the reviews we sowed this year to harvest a bushel of good fiction and nonfiction. First, our 10 favorite crops, and then another 30 that deserve cultivation. We've even got a few for the little farmhands. So, stop your standing around and pitch in. (Sorry to be so corny.)
