To offer assistance to the American Red Cross, call 1-800-HELP NOW. Checks marked "National Disaster Relief Fund" may be mailed to American Red Cross, PO Box 97089, Washington, D.C., 20090-7089.

Americares has set up two funds, the Heroes' Fund, to support children of firefighters, police, and Port Authority employees who have died, and Aid for Terrorist Attack Victims. To donate, call (800) 486-4357, or go to www.americares.org. Checks - with fund specified - may be mailed to Americares, 161 Cherry St., New Canaan, CT, 06480.

The Salvation Army is accepting donations at local offices. Contributions may be sent to Salvation Army, 2626 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W., Washington, D.C., 20037 or call (866)399-2684. More information is available at www.salvationarmy.org.

The United Way has set up a fund for victims and families: The September 11th Fund, United Way, 2 Park Ave., New York, NY 10016, (212) 251-4035, or through the website www.uwnyc.org.
