Web Smarts
What:
Kayleigh's Playground, an interactive learning and games site for preschoolers and up.
Best Points:
The site is divided into sections: Learning Activities, Fun & Games, Music, Online Stories, and Odds-n-Ends. Its activities and stories are geared to toddlers and preschoolers, the games are for older preschoolers and kindergartners and above, and the music is for all ages. The site isn't fancy, but it's simple to navigate, and a safe place for young children to learn about letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and sounds, while getting comfortable with the computer.
What you need to know:
Tamora Gossner started the site for her niece Kayleigh in 1998, because of the shortage of kid-friendly websites. It has since won numerous awards. Some of the effects won't work on an older browser, so links to download Netscape Navigator 4, Internet Explorer 4, and the Macromedia Flash plug-in are provided.
