WHAT IF WE TRIED ... BATMAN?

If you were the parent of a baby boy you probably wouldn't choose to name him Superman, right? At least, not until he'd leaped a tall building in a single bound. But that's precisely what Sara Lindenger and Johan Leisten intended to do with their infant. That is, until tax authorities who oversee Sweden's naming rules turned them down on grounds that it could "lead to discomfort for the person who uses it." (Such as when challenged by other kids to leap a tall building.) Undaunted, the couple appealed to their county court in Göteborg. Another rejection. So, for now, they and the child apparently will have to content themselves with David Rune Leisten.

I KNOW A WINNER WHEN I SEE IT

From Canada, which gave commercial TV Pamela Anderson, Alex Trebek, and Peter Jennings, comes word of a new star: Maggie. Her special talent: using a type of roulette wheel in the studios of The Sports Network to correctly pick the Anaheim Mighty Ducks to advance in each round of the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup playoffs. And all without saying a word. That's because she's a monkey.

A blazing start (at the box office) for 'Matrix' sequel

"The Matrix Reloaded" set the bar high for a summer that will be loaded with action films and sequels. Part 2 of the digital dystopia trilogy took in $93 million during its first weekend of release, second only to the record $115 million grossed last year by "Spider-Man." The top 10 in box office earnings (in millions) for May 16-18, according to industry tracker Exhibitor Relations Inc.:
