Award for Monitor cartoonist

Monitor cartoonist Clay Bennett has won the Overseas Press Club's Thomas Nast Award for best cartoons on international affairs in 2005. He shares the award with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Mike Luckovich. The judges found a typical Bennett cartoon "makes the reader think." They cited him as a master of the "soft sell," noting one cartoon in which the United States, as a construction worker, is nailing himself into a closed room while nation-building.
