From an original list of 250 jobs in 19 industries, Money magazine has identified software engineering as "the best in America." The ranking, made with the help of compensation experts Salary.com, takes into account average annual pay in the field ($80,500), growth prospects, stress level, ease of entry, flexibility, opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects, and potential for advancement. Coming in second: college professors, who average 30 hours a week at work and spend 31 days on vacation. The nation's 10 best jobs, according to the Money/Salary.com survey:

2. College professor
3. Financial adviser
4. Human resources manager
5. Physician's assistant
6. Market research analyst
7. Computer IT analyst
8. Real estate appraiser
9. Pharmacist
10. Psychologist
