Eat-in, take-out, or delivered, pizza fans have lots of options

Whether topped with mushrooms, anchovies, pepperoni, pineapple chunks, or simply plain cheese, Americans love their pizza. So it's fortunate that they don't lack for places to buy it. In addition to the frozen brands available in supermarkets, there are almost 70,000 pizza shops across the country, according to Pizza Today, the leading trade publication for the $35- billion-a-year industry. Although many local independent mom-and-pop outlets manage to make a go of it, the magazine estimates that more than half that revenue is generated by the 10 largest franchisers. According to Pizza Today, 100 different chains had at least 11 outlets and more than $20 million in gross sales last year. The 10 chains with the most locations:

1. Pizza Hut 12,572

2. Domino's 7,945

3. Papa John's 2,902

4. Little Caesar's 2,500

5. Noble Roman's 1,280

6. Sbarro 950

7. Papa Murphy's Take 'N' Bake 942

8. Godfather's Inc. 572

9. Pizza Pro 568

10. CiCi's 560
