Of First Things First
The first flake teeters down and I
can already imagine a city bathed in white.
A word from a woman just met can
have us married years into the future.
I see honey in the bees, soaring butterflies
in the lowliest creep of caterpillars.
First warm day and it's spring everywhere.
First heartbeat of a child and a
president is sworn in.
And the first thing
that pops into my head
is why didn't I think of that.
And then I do.
