Fatima AbdulKarim

Special correspondent

Born in Jerusalem and raised between Amman, Jordan, and Sharjah, UAE, Fatima AbdulKarim uses her unique perspective, research skills, and grassroots storytelling in her reporting.

From the West Bank, Fatima writes on politics, diplomacy, economy, culture, security, settler violence, life-and-death crises, and the hopes and often unfulfilled aspirations of Palestinians living under occupation.

She seeks out the voices of decisionmakers and everyday people to present Palestinian perspectives on the Israeli occupation and Israeli-Palestinian conflict, regional politics, global events, and domestic developments in the West Bank and Gaza.

Fatima also draws upon a career that has spanned media, communications, human rights advocacy, arts, and culture in the public sector, NGOs, and news organizations.

In her 18 years reporting from the front lines of the occupied Palestinian territories, Fatima’s bylines have appeared in the Christian Science Monitor, The Wall Street Journal, 972 Magazine, The Washington Post and The New York Times.

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.
