Han Zhao

Han Zhao is a fellow with the Monitor's EqualEd section. Han graduated from Missouri State University with a graduate degree in International Politics. Han studied broadcast journalism for her undergraduate degree, but later found that the typical two-minute TV segments didn’t allow for an in-depth look at issues or solutions. Thus, she turned her focus to long-form journalism. Han reported for KSMU, the local NPR station in Springfield, Mo.

Born in China, Han is fluent in Mandarin. She also continues to develop a passion for Swahili and African politics, which piqued her interest since China's emerging presence in Africa.

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.
