Kit Gillet is based in Bucharest, Romania, covering the nearby region for the Monitor and other publications. He moved to Romania in 2013 after six years covering China and elsewhere in Asia from his base in Beijing.
Kit is a former staff writer for the South China Morning Post and China International Business magazine, and was reporting from China throughout the 2008 Olympics, the financial crisis, and the arrest and imprisonment of Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo.
Over the years he has also reported from Vietnam, Cambodia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine and many other countries on a wide range of topics, including the end of nomadic life in Mongolia and the recent uprising in Ukraine.
Kit also writes for outlets such as The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The Economist, among others.
