Mark Trumbull, National News editor, guides the Monitor's strong team of reporters and editors covering U.S. political, economic, environmental, and other news from Washington to Texas and California. Earlier, he has been a staff writer on on both U.S. coasts, while also maintaining ties to the Midwest where he grew up. His economic-oriented writing beats have put him on the road to cover everything from declining Rust Belt factory jobs to the housing crisis – and the search for solutions to such problems. In editing roles, he has been Deputy National Editor, led a team developing innovative coverage on climate change, and been Deputy Daily Editor. Whether it's distilling information through graphics or expanding into a longer-form narrative, Mark aims to help the Monitor be a source of trustworthy news, hope amid challenges, and understanding one another across divides.

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.
