Martin Kuz is a special projects contributor to the Monitor. From 2018-2021, he was the West Coast correspondent for the Monitor, based in Sacramento, Calif. He previously served as a projects reporter for the San Antonio Express-News and covered the war in Afghanistan for Stars and Stripes. He has worked as a staff reporter and editor at various publications, including the Los Angeles Daily News, Las Vegas Sun, and Sactown Magazine.

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.
