Nicole Orttung interned for the Monitor's rapid response team in the summer of 2016. She is a senior at Columbia University, studying political science and economics, and a member of the Dual BA Program with Sciences Po Paris. She writes for the City News section of the Columbia Daily Spectator and previously served as an editorial intern at the Wilson Quarterly. A native of Arlington, Virginia, she enjoys spending her free time reading, hiking, and taking dance classes.

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.
