Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

“Warriors Don’t Cry” by Melba Beals (Simon, 240 pp.) is the inspiring true story of the forced integration of Little Rock High School. Beals, one of the original “Little Rock 9,” draws from her memories, diaries, and mother’s writings to recount the struggle for equality within the school system. Many of today's readers will be astonished by the hateful treatment the author endured at the age of 15, distinguishing herself as a true young warrior of the Civil Rights movement.
